News of a new vicar arriving!
My name is Alan Ryan, I am currently serving as the rector of the Winterborne Valley and Milton Abbas benefice in Salisbury Diocese. On Sunday 18th August I will be sharing Holy Communion for the last time with people from my six parishes here in Dorset.
A week later and we will be packing up and moving to the Vicarage in Yealmpton. I will be licensed by the Bishop of Exeter on 24th September at St Werburgh’s Church, Wembury.
We are about to leave a place that we have grown to love and where we are surrounded by many friends. What makes the transition exciting is that we will be moving into an area that we know well – we lived in Ermington until ten years ago. This is where our boys grew up. My wife Harriet and I are excited by the move to the Yealm and Erme Mission Community. It feels like we are returning home.
We have two adult sons, both married and three and a bit grandchildren. We will be arriving with one dog, three ducks and two horses. The move is proving to be an interesting logistical problem!
When I visited the churches on my interview day, I was pleasantly surprised to find so many familiar and friendly faces. I look forward to engaging with you all (both in and out of church) as we work together to grow God’s kingdom.
You may see us out and about, speak to us if you see us walking with our dog, or introduce yourself if you see me in the shop. You might even catch me in church!
I am so looking forward to getting to know you, listening to your stories and journeying together,
Rev’d Alan Ryan
